There were no Clans as they are known today, only loose groups of loners who competed amongst each other for resources.
It was then that their ancestors, now known as the Celestial Canopy, reached out with an ultimatum: “Create these Clans as we instruct, or face your own destruction.” In return for following their instructions, the Clans were promised blessings of protection. Two cats, Ivory and Ridge, heeded their ancestors' words and created the two Clans that persist now: the Ivory Talons and the Ridge Fangs. The Clans have been around for roughly four hundred cycles, thriving within their respective territories.
Roughly two hundred cycles ago, however, the Celestial Canopy began to grow silent, and ultimately failed to return in any capacity. Still, the Clans persisted onward. In the cycles following the Celestials’ disappearance, the Clans have advanced tremendously, learning how to mine and forge metals from a mysterious loner. These developments have given rise to the new rank of forger, a cat whose duties consist of mining and forging metal rather than acting as a warrior. They have also given rise to a plethora of weaponry, such as metal claws and metal fangs. Despite the advent of metalworking, the Clans have maintained a long period of peace. Thus, these weapons have only been used for hunting and for stockpiling in anticipation of another major conflict.
After the age of metals and mines began, Clan cats banished for heinous crimes were tasked with a dangerous mission: bring back enough ore from a treacherous mine, and be allowed back into the Clans. These cats started to be known as Canaries, and the term eventually became a catch-all for all loners and rogues within the territories.
